Match Report: Southend Collegians (S) vs Roundacre United (S) First

Updated: Feb 27, 2023

An early season top-of-the-table clash saw the Southend Collegians Sunday team take on Roundacre United (S) First in a thrilling 3-3 draw.

Collegians and Roundacre were the in form teams going into the match, with the sides securing 8-0 and 6-2 victories respectively. It was a cagey start, with both teams battling for possession in the middle of the park. Southend Collegians struck the first blow by scoring around the 20th minute, but then very quickly gifted the opposition an equaliser.

Collegians reacted in the best way possible and controlled the tempo and play for the rest of the first half. After a few minor tactical and personnel changes, Collegians dominated proceedings early in the second half, where they scored a second and third goal in quick succession.

As the game wore on, Roundacre’s youthful energy, fitness, and substitutions gave them a stronger footing in the match. Roundacre pulled one back from a corner, and then equalised 15 minutes before full time.

After the match, SCFC Sunday manager Dan Phillips said:

“You have to finish your chances to put games to bed, but you can also never say never, which the other team did. It didn’t help that we gifted them some goals”.

Taking a positive stance on the result, Dan added:

“It’s a point, we’re still top of the league by goal difference, and we’re still unbeaten. That’s brilliant for a new formed team”.
