Match Report: Ekco Park Reserves vs. Southend Collegians Reserves

In a crucial encounter on Saturday, September 23, 2023, Southend Collegians Reserves faced Ekco Park Reserves in the Southend Borough & District Football Combination Division One. The game took place at Ekco Sports & Social Club and was marked by determination and an impressive comeback.

The match began with Southend Collegians Reserves dominating the early stages but unable to capitalize on their opportunities in the final third. Against the run of play, Ekco Park took the lead with an excellent touch and finish from a great ball over the top, making it 1-0 at halftime.

However, the halftime break brought new energy to the team as several changes were made. The equalizer came after Karl Anderson delivered a corner, and Tom Dorili bravely headed the ball into the far corner. This goal marked a turning point in the match.

As the game progressed, Ekco Park found themselves fortunate to maintain a full 11 players after a contentious challenge that went unpunished. Southend Collegians Reserves capitalized on their momentum, with Liam Hiliker scoring the second goal, a powerful strike that rattled the crossbar.

The third goal followed shortly after, showcasing brilliant teamwork. Byren Hackett played a pivotal role in setting up Simon Radford, who produced an audacious backheel assist to his brother Matt Radford, who finished calmly into the bottom corner.

Reserve team player-manager, Jamie Nicholls, said after the match :

"A great performance from the Lads and hopefully more to come"

The 1-3 victory reflected the team's determination, resilience, and improved performance in the second half. It was a great response to a challenging start to the season, and the lads will be looking to build on this momentum in future matches.
